Perfect for all experience levels - No experience necessary! Students will learn stone carving using hand tools on Oamaru stone, a natural limestone from the south island chosen for it's consistency and softness and is shipped up especially for the carving courses. Once the students have developed their carving skills and confidence using power tools on the soft stone they will move onto using Taranaki andersite. This is the local stone from one of the many quarries around Mt Taranaki. It is the predominant stone carved by the sculptors at Te Kupenga. During the course the students will learn carving using hand tools and power tools, basic 3-d designing, types of materials, different carving techniques, texturing, polishing, sealing and coloring, drilling, plinths / bases and installation and will also receive info about joining Te Kupenga - the New Plymouth hard stone carving club.
